Textile Industry

Silk Industry - This industry was the most profitable thanks to the remarkable invention of the Jacquard loom, which was a successful mechanical loom for weaving silk fabrics.

Woolen Industry - French wool was plentiful in quantity and excellent in quality. It required more work than cotton because it was harder to spin and weave. A large proportion of the actual manufacturing remained in the hands of masters working at home or employing out-workers on a small scale.

Linen Industry – Linen was the most primitive of all textile industries and more difficult to weave than cotton and wool.

Cotton Industry - After 1815, the greatest change was seen in the cotton industry. It shown a great development in the later 18th century. Between 1815 and 1840, the output of the cotton industry tripled despite of the relatively poor machinery.
