Gas

Over the course of the 19th century, gas grew as a power source. By 1855, the small companies that provided it, merged forming the Compagnie Parisienne d'Eclairage et de Chauffage par le Gaz. Many factories at the time had gas tanks because it was a more stable source of energy than oil.
