The Eiffel Tower

   Eiffelâs thousand-foot tower was 
   built for the 1889 exhibition. 
   Lots of debates had been going 
   on regarding to the construction 
   of such a gigantic steel 
   structure. Some "refined" 
   artists were against the 
   building of the Îskinny 
   monster,â others supported the 
   building of it as a symbol of 
   modernity. Although the 
   construction of Eiffel Tower 
   adds some diversity to the city, 
   this Îmachineryâ trend was still 
   weak and the tradition of 
   architecture since the Second 
   Empire went on.
